Charlton Hestons performance as Taylor in This film deserved an Oscar Nomination

much like his other nominated roles for Moses in The Ten Commandments(1956) & Ben-Hur(1959) he should've gotten an Oscar Nomination for his role as Taylor in this.

Why? He was a clueless astronaut who couldn't recognize Earth despite the landscape and apes speaking English

If you see pictures of Mars you will find similarities to Earth, it can happen the same with other planets. At the beginning, the astronauts mentioned, that there is no moon.
The thing with the language is tricky indeed, but there is no way to do this movie without dialogues.

also Helped Michael Wilson and Rod Sterling were great pair of writers as well Hestons Performance helped in that regard as well also why his performance was so good.
