funny classic cinema

I watched this movie the other night with my girlfriend and thought it was really funny and something id see again. It was made before my time i am 30 it came out in 1968 but i know humor being a fan of most comedy and the pink panter. It wasnt vulgar or crude but the humor was deadpan and even peter sellers playing a man from india did not go overboard.Only bad spot is when the lady is singing that song and you know its not her voice but it can be overlooked i give it 4 out of 5 stars.

You mean the cute bird in the yellow dress? That was her singing, you know. Claudine Longet had something of a career as a chanteuse - she was married to boring crooner Andy Williams for a while; they divorced, but she still showed up on his family Christmas specials, but then she shot her skiier boyfriend and wasn't on afterward.

But I digress. Good call on the movie. It's fun.

I agree, this movie is classic, and one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. It was made long before I was born but I watched it on recommendation and loved it for all its campy fun. Sellers had a great style of humor that is subtle sometimes in this movie, but unlike some other posters I never found it dull. He played Hurundi perfectly. I give this movie 4/5 too, it's one of my favorites.

hjr2000 is not satisfied with starting a thread that informs people how much he hated this movie. He (she) has to poison every other thread with this opinion as well.

hjr2000, we are all fully aware of your opinion. Please understand that there are people who *do* like this movie. It would be nice to have a thread to discuss "The Party" without having to read your sophomoric rantings about it.

When I first saw this flick it was one of the funniest movies I had ever seen. I have not seen it in a very long time however if Netflix has it I'm going to see it again.

Concerning the endless remakes from Hollywood... It seems that the writing talent in Hollywood has completely dried up. Apparently there is a no new material to feed their mediocrity machine so they have to sap the energy out of classics from the past. They remade George Pal's "War of the Worlds". They even remade Hitch's "Psycho"!!! Now they're going to remake the timeless classic "The Day the Earth Stood Still". Why can't Hollywood leave the classics alone? I'll tell you why. Hollywood is not about creativity; it's about money. It's always been that way, but at least the former studio system sometimes allowed some creative independence that gave rise to some wonderful cinematic treasures.

Blake Edwards' work is wonderful stuff. "The Party" is a little gem. Peter Sellers is at his best here.

"Ying-tong Iddle-I-Po."

If you think that The Party is funny then you have the imagination of a slug. Blake Edwards couldnt direct traffic.

If you dont like my posts dont read them!

Actually perhaps she doesn't sing it live, but she did play that song. She was a famous artist then, Claudine Longet. She has a beautiful voice.
