The Party: Sequel and Transendental Meditation

I am glad to see so much discussion over The Party. It seems that there are many people that share the same passion for the movie as I do, and some that don't. We'll, too bad for the ones that don't. If you don't like it, then why waste so much time on it - move on!

For those who do enjoy this movie, I would like to invite them to share their thoughts for the sequel that I am currently drafting. Yes, that's right ... we can find out what happens after Hrundi goes home to feed Oh-Pooh and whether or not he ever gets his hat back from the lovely Michelle. Will he get another shot at the big time, will Michelle record an album and be a star, will anyone dare invite them both to another party? This is a screenplay I have always wanted to explore and now that I have the time, I will.

What would you like to see happen and why? Certainly, Hrundi will have many new friends as well as enemies in the Hills and will be somewhat of a celebrity after his impact at the Clutterbuck party. Have you seen "Being There"? Perhaps the philosophies of Chance and Hrundi will intertwine and we'll learn more from Hindu (and horticultural!) thought and hear more sayings like "Wisdom is the profit of the aged, but the heart of a child is pure". Sayings that at first you don't understand, but after some thought you will interpret them for yourself and find personal meaning.

One of the problems (for want of a better word) with The Party, as one user pointed out in an earlier posting, is that it's a movie that goes beyond watching the images on the screen with regards to the viewers interaction. The time, place and mood of the viewing experience is of utmost importance. You almost have to transcend into being an off-camera guest at the party to really enjoy it. The music score offers you this invitation to "come in" when the music level is raised as Hrundi enters the room where the band is playing. It's at this point that I truly feel I am "into" the film. By the way, Transcendental Meditation was big at the time of its release and the many Hindu undertones (and overtones) help support this angle. I don't know what Blake Edwards and the crew were really into when they were filming, but it looks like they were having a great time!

Anyway, I must digress from the previous topic of which I essentially know nothing about. There is a lot to explore in the sequel and I would like some input from those who would appreciate a follow up to such an original film. Perhaps you think it should be left alone, perhaps not. Let me know. Thanks for reading.
