Why was he wearing glasses in the toilet scene, and at no other time?

This stood out like a sore thumb. In the scene with the overflowing toilet, Sellers has glasses on, but at no other time during the movie is he wearing glasses. Is this a goof?

I had to check the movie out, and he does indeed wear his glasses at home playing the sitar - then when he first gets to the party, he puts them on for a moment to check his muddy shoe.
I figure Bakshi is a professional actor, so he goes without his glasses a lot as his movie roles would need him to.

He puts his glasses on when he wants to get a good look at something (like when he looks at his shoes); obviously Hrundi wanted to be sure he wouldn't leave pee drops on the floor, which makes the subsequent scene all the more funny.

Thanks for pointing out that he is wearing the glasses while playing sitar. But, that suggests he's far sighted and doesn't really need them when in the bathroom scene. Personally, I think it's a goof. Too bad the DVD for this movie doesn't have a commentary track, which might include an explanation for the glasses.

He puts them on when the drunk blonde was asking him what was in the glass too. But there was no reason for him to put them on while being on the roof. Maybe cos it was dark? I really don't know...

Just watched the movie. Hrundi runs upstairs after the French chick's song and when he gets to the hallway at the top, he puts his glasses on and has them on throughout the next scenes until after the roof.
Why is a different question, but I don't believe it's a goof.

maybe it's just to mess with you

Just after he accidentally increases the fire, or shoots a toy gun to Kelso, he seems to be trying hard to focus his eyes, which indicates that he suffers from some common eye problem that most aged people suffer from (presbyopia), but like many of us, he avoids wearing his glasses when he is NOT alone.

While taking a close look at the empty glass in the hand of the drunk blonde lady, he looks through his glasses, but avoids putting them on. It should indicate that he was conscious about looking 'cheap' or 'outdated' in public.

There are couple of scenes where he squints at what he's looking at so he must be far sighted.
