Cromwell's face

Cromwell is seen with three very big and ugly warts on his face. Is this because the actor (Patrick Wymark, whom I've never seen in another film) has these warts, or is it because Cromwell is supposed to have had them (I'm totally unfamiliar with Cromwell's historical looks).

reply

Oliver Cromwell had warts on his face. When he was going to have his portrait painted he told the artist that he wanted to be painted, "Warts and all."

So the actor was probably wearing makeup - unless Wymark was chosen because he had warts as well!

reply

Wymark didn't have warts, that's how Cromwell was supposed to have looked.

Patrick Wymark didn't have any warts on his face as you can see in the films he appeared in: Blood on Satan's Claw, Where Eagles Dare, etc.
