GREAT MOVIE! When Will it be Released on DVD??

This movie seems to be overlooked in the Peter Selers DVD Catalogue. But to me it's one of his greatest films. The Harold Fine character is the played perfectly as the straight laced conservative establishment abiding Lawyer. In fact all the characters are well cast! This is a Great time capsule of the late sixties as it pits both extreme lifestyles against each other. And the result is that everything isn't black or white, liberal or conservative as the prefered direction. At the end of the movie Harold Fine discovers that he's not sure what he wants, the stifling constrictions of conservativsm or the hedonistic overindugent extremes of the hippie movement. But he knows that somewhere in the world there has to be something that makes sense and resolves his frustration. I hope this movie comes out on DVD soon, it's a MUST for Peter Seller's FANS!!

I need this DVD too. I don't expect it to come with any extras, though. I don't understand the pans, or at least mixed reviews ("frantic satire"), that this movie gets. My on-screen cable guide, OTOH, gives it 3.5 out of 4 stars -- maybe a leeeetle generous, but more accurate overall. Sellers' Jewish accent (that don't sound right -- is there such a thing?) is dead-on. Too bad the real Alice B. died just before it came out. I love you, "I Love You, Alice B. Toklas!"!

It's a type of New York accent which people associate with American Jews. There is actually a Wikipedia article about it, "New York dialect".

I own 28 Peter Sellers movies on DVD and this has to be one of the very few Sellers films not available on DVD (yet?). No idea why, because it's a marvellous film and one of my favourites. Much more interesting than his early sixties' work, "Toklas" provides a very clever and witty analysis of the hippie era.

I don't have any actual information, but I was able to add it to my Netflix queue, and it's in the "Awaiting Release" section. I don't believe Netflix simply lists all movies whether there actually is a DVD or not, so perhaps that means it's in the works?

Can't say this is anywhere near my favorite Peter Sellers film. It doesn't approach the joy of Strangelove, Shot in the Dark, and a half dozen others I could name. But it is easy to take, and, like the brownies at issue, it goes down easily. The actors are all attractive, from the gorgeous Taylor Leigh-Young to the funny Jo Ann Fleet to a bit part by old W.C. Fields foil Grady Sutton. This is a relic of its time, nothing more. Maltin gives it a 3 1/2 out of 4, and this is much too high! (It's probably more like a 2 1/2 or, as a stretch, a 3. I gave it an IMDB 7.) At any rate, it's well worth one's time--and it's deservedly on DVD now.

i couldnt disagree with you more

alice is my second favorite sellars performance, beaten out by 'never let go'

strangelove is of course a better movie but i dont think sellars has a better performance.

Sadly after only being released on DVD a short 3 years ago, Warner Bros. has discontinued I LOVE YOU ALICE B. TOKLAS on DVD. It is now officially OUT OF PRINT.
Those of us who were wise enough to purchase it when it was released hold on to your copies.
