"Snatch" is on the Top 250 and this isn't.

What is this site coming to?!?! To even suggest that Guy "Mr. Madonna" Ritchie's film can even hold a candle to this is ludicrous, let alone have it outrank it. If anyone hasn't voted for this film yet, I urge you to do so. It may not make a huge difference, but every little bit helps.

reply

I haven't seen this, but Snatch is a great movie.

reply

I agree. I've never seen Funny Girl, but I want to, and I don't understand why you're attacking Snatch. For that matter, I don't understand why you're bringing Guy Ritchie's relationship with Madonna into it. What does Madonna have to do with Guy Ritchie's credibility as a film maker?

reply

I have seen both films and think they are both good. i am surprised Funny Girl isn't in the top 250 films but i would be surprised if snatch was the worst of those included.

I didn't come on this board to diss it but to look up some information. But how this can be compared to Snatch, I don't really know. Snatch is streets ahead. It outranks Funny Girl, of course, because it got higher votes from imdb subscribers.

Having said that, I wouldn't worry too much about imdb rankings. I doubt if you will enjoy watching Funny Girl more if it gets into the top two-fifty.

And, by the bye, personal attacks on the director's choice of wife don't help your cause.

reply

Actually, I think his choice of wife is one of the best things that could have ever happened to his career--which is the reason I referred to him as Mr. M., because I doubt his skill as a director will ever eclipse her fame. I wouldn't know him by name if it wasn't for the marriage.

bloated biopic that focuses on Streisland too much ? what did you expect when the movie is funny girl?

reply

Funny Girl is good mostly because of Streisand's powerhouse performance. One has to admit she carries this film and because of her ability, showcased very well here, it is memorable.

reply

The fact that SNATCH is in the top 250 is neither here nor there and I don't know why you singled that particular film out but I do agree that FUNNY GIRL should be in the top 250. It's a great musical...it may not be a terribly accurate biography of Fanny Brice, but it is a great musical.

I believe his point is that FG deserves to be on the list more than several other films of dubious distinction which are on there. DUH

The Nimble, Limber One.

I've never seen Funny Girl... but this film only reminds me of other that deserves the top 250:

The only reason that"Snatch"--which is a great film--is in the top 250 and "Funny Girl"--which is also a great film--is not is because IMDB (as with the Internet in general) is a fairly new phenomenon, which most likely means that most of its members are of a fairly new generation (myself included). Therefor, the only reasn Snatch outranks Funny Girl on IMDB is because more IMDB members have seen it (and because it speaks more the language and style that newer generations can conect with). It's all simple logistics, so don't get too upset over it.

Furthermore, Will everyone please stop using Snatch as a poster boy for over-rated films. It really is a top-notch movie. Even if it isn't your bag, Can we at least agree that there are a lot worse films out ther with a lot more popularity (Matrix, anyone?). Leave "Snatch" alone.

reply

Exactly. To compare these films on a 'greatness' scale is ludicrous. What are we saying -- that SNATCH isn't as affective a musical portrait of Fanny Brice as FUNNY GIRL? Well that's true! SNATCH completely failed on this level...but then so did THE GODFATHER, THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, LORD OF THE RINGS...
