This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I love Barbra, and I've seen this movie more times then I can even count. I recently watched New York, New York, however the board over there is dead. I was curious if anyone noticed similarities in the plot? That was probably the only reason I liked NY, NY.

Rumor has it that NEW YORK, NEW YORK was based on the early life of Doris Day, who was married to an abusive musician.

I see it more similar to A Star Is Born with Judy Garland & James Mason and Inside Daisy Clover.
