No Widescreen DVD?
I've wanted to get this movie for a long time, but it appears according to Amazon.com specs that it is not widescreen. Can anyone who owns the DVD confirm this? i can't understand why it wouldn't be widescreen. bummer.

shareYes, it is widescreen. 1.85:1. Unfortunately, it's a no frills DVD. Not even a trailer or a scene card. My copy has a card advertizing other Eastwood releases instead.

The DVD is anamorphic widescreen, with no extras and the picture quality is pretty grainy.
Fun film and always good to see Clint films on DVD.
The DVD is widescreen but as posted elsewhere, there are key scenes missing from this version of the film.
shareOk, so I have the movie on the newly released 'Clint Eastwood: American Icon' collection from Universal.......which is a terriffic buy. Four of Clint's non-western movies from Universal for 15-20 bucks (Play Misty for Me, The Eiger Sanction, Coogan's Bluff, and The Beguiled.)
All four movies are in their widescreen versions, are animorphic, and are digitally enhanced.......so the picture for 'Coogan's Bluff' is pretty impressive (especially considering it's now over 40 years old).
As far as scenes deleted from the DVD? I certainly didn't notice any. Sometimes cable televisions will show a cut of the film that includes scenes that were deleted - so maybe this is the case, I don't know.
In any event, it's very likely that the DVD is the theatrical cut of the film, just as audiences saw it in 1968. There are certainly no continuity issues.
