I really dont understand why this MASTERPIECE is not out on DVD!!!! It's cutting and use of splitscreen is FANTASTIC!!!! Please, Please 20th century fox release this movie on DVD. And make it a Special Edition with lots of extra stuff and the movie with new remastered picture in 2.35:1 Anamorphic and remixed Dolby 5.1 sound. That would make me a happy little strangler...
Yup, although it may seem strange because there are SO many great movies not out yet on DVD, this is still one of the ones I'm hoping for most. I don't know who holds the rights but a special edition (or even a movie only edition) would be a must-buy for me. Perhaps if threatened with some strangling the rights-holders would see the light and release this gem of a movie!
Just announced on the Digital Bits site (usually very reliable) apparently Fox have said that The Boston Strangler wil be released on Region 1 DVD on July 1st of this year, no details as yet!!!! I for one am a VERY happy man!
It looks like it will be just the movie but still anything is great as far as I'm concerned too. I'm not sure if you're in the UK but you can pre-order it from Play.com for £5.99. Also however, I never noticed on any of my searches before but there is already a dvd version out in france (not sure how long that's been the case). You can buy it from DVDZone2 for about £8 and although it has no extras I think that will also be the case for the region 2 UK version as it has such a low S.R.P. As far as I know it has removable subtitles so basically it is an english language version. just thought you might want to know if you were desperate to own it now (although it would seem like a better idea to wait and pay less for the region 2 UK version which possibly might have extras).
"Just announced from Fox Home Entertainment is the studios September 7th lineup of scary movies, just in time for Halloween. Making their DVD debuts are first-ever widescreen releases of such gems as The Alligator People, The Boston Strangler, Island of the Dead, Reign in Darkness, the Marlee Matlin thriller Hear No Evil, Blood Moon, Creepy Crawlers, Basket Case: The Progeny, the 1996 remake of The Vanishing, and the last remaining Jamie Lee Curtis slasher flick not yet released on DVD, Terror Train. All are presented in their original aspect ratios and anamorphically encoded if applicable, and feature trailers. Retail is $14.95 a pop."
So not a Special Edition, but at least it's getting a decent release in its OAR.
I got my copy now too, to be honest I was a little underwhelmed with it as the transfer is really not that great but I did like the addition of the AMC documentary (although it really says very little) and the Newsreel. It's just great to have the movie in my collection, I'm looking forward to showing it to a few people because I know they won't have seen it and are bound to like it. One thing that did come out of the documentary which I never really thought about before is that the film really didn't do anything for Tony Curtis' career, when you watch the film it's hard to believe that no-one even thought he was worth nominating for the oscar, he's brilliant, one of the few performances from a big-name star where you really do begin to forget that the actor and believe in the character fully, he just disappears into it so completely. Anyway, I've gone on long enough...
Yesterday, I finally got "The Boston Strangler" on DVD, a little over a year after my original post, expresing a wish for a Special Edition DVD. I have to agree with you guys the extras and the transfer is not that overwhelming. I guess the studio dosent believe that it will sell all that well on DVD. Its a shame. But maybe someday a more special edition will be released. But for now, I'm just happy that I finally got it!
