Type IV: Civilization?

We are of course free to interpret or assume Dave's final state of being, but I think it may be beyond the concept of Civilization, though not perhaps beyond the controlling of energy.

I've always thought that in many ways 2001 is a much more elegant updating of Clark's concepts in Childhood's End. Within that context Dave, and by extension all of humanity, has become part of the Overmind.
