It's Such a Good Feeling
© 1970 Fred M. Rogers

It's such a good feeling to know you're alive.
It's such a happy feeling: You're growing inside.
And when you wake up ready to say,
"I think I'll make a snappy new day."
It's such a good feeling, a very good feeling.
The feeling you know that
I'll be back when the day is new
And I'll have more ideas for you.
And you'll have things you'll want to talk about.
I will too.
It's such a good feeling, a very good feeling.
The feeling you know that we're friends.

Hi,
I prefer the original closing song entitled "Tomorrow"....

"Tomorrow, Tomorrow, we'll start the day tomorrow with a song or two....
One Two...
Tomorrow, Tomorrow, we'll start the day tomorrow with a smile for you...

Till then, I hope you're feeling hap-py,
Till then, I hope you're feeling snap-py,

Tomorrow, tomorrow, it soon will be tomorrow and be
our day,
We will say
A very happy tomorrow to you."

How did Fred transition from the "Tomorrow" song to the "Good Feeling" song? How did he explain the change to kids? I never saw that episode. I heard that it happened in 1972.

I believe the song was discontinued because some markets also aired the show on saterdays. I recall that there wasn't a "transition"....he just stopped singing "Tomorrow" and started using "It's Such A Good Feeling" as the closing song.

My question was, how did he explain to the kids that he was changing the closing song? It was one of the few major changes in the entire series, and I am sure that Fred would have explained that to kids.

As for a transition: what I have been told (and might be wrong) was that between Episodes 1205 and 1244, Fred sometimes sang Tomorrow, and sometimes sang Good Feeling. From 1245 on, Good Feeling became the permanent closing song.

I've also been told (and it might be wrong) that Episode 1336 (from the 1974 season) closed with the Tomorrow song. Does anyone remember that? I have been told that it was an epiosde where Daniel's clock was stollen, and Fred loses his watch. I think someone else mentioned that epiosde recently. If you remember that episode, do you remember why Fred sang the Tomorrow song, and how he explained that to kids?

I know for sure that the very last time that Fred sang the Tomorrow song was in Episode 1459, the penultimate pre-79 episode. The last 2 pre-79 weeks, 1451-1460 were designed to prepare kids for the bulk reruns that would follow. In 1459, he sang both the Tomorrow song and the Good Feeling song, to prepare kids for the reruns.

There is also a 3rd, rarely used and little known closing song known as the "Weekend Song". This was used only in Friday episodes, in the 1971 season, and a few Friday episodes from the 1972 season. It was first used in Episode 1135. The first verse of this song was almost exactly like the 2nd verse of the Good Feeling song, starting with "I"ll be back, when the week is new . . .". The 2nd verse was completely different. The lyrics were:

"I'll be back, when the week is new. And I'll have more ideas for you. And you'll have things you'll want to do. And I will too.

I'll think of you, when I'm not there. Cause thinking of people makes them seem near. The friends who know you love you cheerfully. And I do to"

Note that in the first verse, all of the lines rhyme. When it was changed to "think you'll want to talk about" for the Good Feeling song, for whatever reason, that line no longer rhymed. I wonder why that was changed.

I liked the weekend song a lot, so it's too bad that it was used in so few episodes.

I heard that at one time, the Good Feeling song had the line "when tomorrow's new" rather than "when today is new". When was that used? I never saw it in an actual episode, but other people have.

Ah...this show has given me so much joy.

Kindness...A little bit of it goes a very long way.
