Peanut Butter -- Did I Imagine This?

I have vivid memories of an episode in which Mister Rogers demonstrated how to make peanut butter. He took a large quantity of butter, dumped it on the kitchen table, sprinkled peanuts on it, and then started kneading it together with his hands. Then he ate some of it off his hands and remarked, "This is really good peanut butter." As young as I was, I thought it was weird and I knew that that was not the way to make peanut butter. I remember telling my father about it, and he confirmed that peanut butter is ground peanuts and not a combination of peanuts and butter.

As I'm typing this, I'm thinking that it's really bizarre and that I either dreamed or imagined it. But my memories of this (and my subsequent conversation with my father) are so strong that I can't believe that I didn't really see it. Perhaps it was an outtake or a parody...

Does anyone else remember this?

He showed a video on how people make peanut butter in episode #1613. But as for Mister Rogers making peanut butter himself, I'm not sure such an episode exists. But then again, there were 590 seldom seen episodes made from 1968 to 1976, so perhaps he did in one of them. Who knows.

If you're imagining this, then I must be sharing the illusion!

I'm a fiftysomething who grew up on Mister Rogers and my most vivid memory of this show is the peanut butter demo you've described. I don't know which of the forces that be led me to this page this morning...but they say everything happens for a reason. So yes, claude...this really did happen!

You're not imagining it. I remember thinking how weird it was, because I knew that peanut butter doesn't have dairy in it.

I remember it too! You didn't imagine it. I also thought it was weird lol

I remember, as a kid, trying to make peanut butter that way, and it tasted awful. I don't know where I got the idea. Maybe it was an actual episode?
