Constantly driving on the grass or dirt

I've never seen a show where the characters spend so much time off road in huge sedans.

I don't know if Hawaii had a lack of roads at the time or what, but even a lot of the home locations don't seem to have driveways, and a lot of the crime scenes are at cliffside which of course requires driving through wildlife refuges to get to, lol.

It really makes me cringe to imagine those undercarriages and bias ply tires getting stuck in the ground. I wouldn't even consider driving those cars in a lot of places they took them.

Why does it even matter?

The same reason there is a trivia section on IMDb. Not much. But still.....

I know, and those cars were half a block long. McGarrett should have had a jeep.

And why is that?

Your post had such an interesting title, I had to read it. You are right in your observation. I got an immediate mental image of those big sedans plowing through fields and tearing down dirt roads. It often did seem very rural when the scene changed from their headquarters. I don't remember seeing too many car chases through suburban neighborhoods. I do love this great show!

It was even funnier to hear the tires squeal as they roared to a stop at the "scene" or when they peeled away to get started solving the crime, LOL!

In "Oldest Profession-Lastest Price" McGarrett drives up an embankment with his huge rear-wheel drive car. The back tires are engaged and the front two-thirds of the car is sticking straight up in the air. It looks like a surfacing submarine.
