I recently began watching new and recent episodes back to back in my free time. They both good but the recent series the characters have a strong sense of humour whilst the action is fast paced and exciting. The older series is more of a gritty series but has a much much better soundtrack intro theme. Boom boom lol.

I've been reading Karen Rhodes book about the original series, Booking Hawaii Five-0, and it really is interesting to get the behind the scenes information and some of the thinking that went into making the series. I would say the biggest difference is that the original didn't suffer from political correctness and so they were able to tackle much more serious subjects back then. Nowadays everybody is so touchy and so quick to take offense, stories have to be as bland as possible. Just compare the original Wo Fat to the rebooted Wo Fat-the original was far more complex and interesting, in my humble opinion. I admit I probably am a bit biased, as I like Khigh Dhiegh a lot more than Mark Dacascos. But the original Wo Fat just seemed a lot more interesting to me. Like in A Time To Die, when he played chess with the little girl and talked to her about his daughter. He still gave the order for her death, but he left before she was to be killed. It was a different side of Wo Fat and I found it interesting. The new Wo Fat didn't seem nearly as interesting even with his back story. But I think all of filmmaking in America today suffers from the same problem. That's why they used to make movies like Gentleman's Agreement and The Defiant Ones, and now we have endless superhero movies inspired by Marvel Comics.
