McGarrett's car

I noticed it changed back and forth between the older and new models. Mind you, I'm aware of stock footage, but in some scenes there's dialogue as he is driving the older Mercury. Were the episodes shout out of sequence? That's my only guess.

There are two sequences. There's production order, in which the episodes were shot. And there's air date order, in which the episodes were aired. The air date order is also typically the DVD order.

You might expect that these would be largely the same but they're not.

In your thread about Al Harrington, I already linked to this illustration of the two orders as they pertain to Season 7: http://www.mjq.net/fiveo/season7.pdf

And here's an illustration of the two orders as they pertain to Season 9 that I wrote: http://www.mjq.net/fiveo/season9/offices.htm

As far as McGarrett's car is concerned, if it happened mid-season, then I would expect it to "(change) back and forth between the older and new models" as you describe.

Probably the worst episode for seeing both cars was A Killer Grows Wings (8th season). To quote from my review (http://fiveohomepage.com/5-0log8.htm#188):

In the finale, McGarrett and Danno are seen chasing Patton first in a Mercury Park Lane like that used in early episodes of the show, then in the tank-like Mercury Grand Brougham, and then again in the Park Lane.
