First off , anyone know how it got lost and if there's ever
been any word on the possibilty of it still possibly existing someplace?

Bored, She Hung Herself

The "lost" episode of Five-O, it has never been made available in syndication. A woman is found hanged to death. The suspect is a young man who uses a yoga technique where someone hangs themselves (but survives). All is not what it appears.

Is it truly lost or just not on DVD or in Syndication for some other reason?

Why has the second season episode "Bored She Hung Herself" not been seen since the original broadcast in 1970 and is not included in the second season DVD box set?

Mrs. Leonard Freeman, wife of the late creator of the show, speaking to some fans at the 1996 Five-O convention, said that someone tried the yoga-related hanging technique depicted in the show and killed themselves. Speculation is that because of litigation, the show was not rebroadcast (this is my opinion, not Mrs. Freeman's). It has also been removed from any syndication packages, though there is a suggestion that prints were prepared for this purpose because of Viacom logos at the end of bootleg copies currently in circulation.

According to someone at CBS I spoke to in late 2011, this episode will not be seeing the light of day officially on DVD -- ever. there are "legal" issues connected with this episode. The person didn't know specifically what these issues are, just that every time the possible release of this episode came up, the "legal" department had a say in the matter (i.e., NO).

Thank you Alpha, good to know at least that much.

I'm sure one day all that will blow over and it will be part of the set again.

Amazing how one person doing something without thinking
of any possible consequences makes things harder for others.

I'm not bagging on that individual and hope their soul has & will
always be resting in peace but I'll just never figure people out in that way.

If I've never done soemthing and don;t knwo at all or
exactly how to do it, I don't. Unless I seek the proper instrcutor.

Don't hold your breath. However, if you really want to see it, the episode is out there as a poor quality bootleg.

But as far as I'm concerned, you're not missing anything. I've seen the episode, and put it on my "worst episode" list: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls003076358/

I saw it a few years ago so it's not lost, just suppressed.
I found it to be a below average episode of the series, not terrible like "To Hell with Babe Ruth" but not good either.

To h*** With Babe Ruth was great! 

Closer to awful wouyld be "Thanks For The Homneymoon" ,not a bad episode but I couldn;t help but laugh at the idea of the state police & gGovernor giving the OK for a wedding of two convicts in exchange for the female's testimony against a mobster.

his picture to be taken doing something so obviously embarrasing.

SPOILER!!! Then the mobster, thinking ,he's killed them ,actally (and stupidly) shows up at Steve's office ,beleiveing he'll be walking out of there & not going to jail.

 Still someo f it was good ,when
it got more serious but it was unintentionally funny.

As of today (May 17th, 2015) there are three versions on YouTube.

One of these looks like it was filmed off TV with a camcorder, which makes it look pretty bad, because the original bootlegged version, which comes from a 16mm print, looked like it was projected on a wall and also filmed with a camcorder and that looked very bad already.

As well, whoever was filming this first YouTube version didn't place the camera correctly, because characters heads are cut off throughout the video. And the total running time is 45:06. Considering the original time is close to 50 minutes, the characters start to sound like The Chipmunks.

I have a version of this show with revamped color, the result of the owner of the 16mm print later getting it transferred "correctly," and the time of that is 51:38, but this includes some gaps where commercials were to be inserted. There is a suggestion that prints were prepared for syndication because of Viacom logos at the end of this print. Viacom did not exist as a commercial entity until May 3, 1971. Bored was originally aired on January 7, 1970, over a year before.

There is another YouTube version which is 49:37 which is not cropped properly, but at least the voices sound OK, even though the video quality is mediocre.

Finally, there is a version which is 74:25 (!). The quality is bad. The show is presented complete, total length 49:36, but then it starts all over again, and ends in the middle of the show!

I also found it totally unbelievable that McGarrett would leave the surveillance team to have a roll in the hay with his ex-girlfriend, then bring her back to the off limits area of the hotel with him.

Eel, McGarrett was off duty in that scene. He tells Margo that. Someone mentioned this on another website and I went to check that scene again. I don't remember the actual wording, but he does say he is off duty.

Margo was already in the hotel, though I don't remember if it was established as a matter of fact that she was allowed access to that but she was able to go right up to the door of the office where the surveillance was being done, so she had to have clearance.

Okay ,I'm satisfied enough for now. 

I just came from YouTube and watched the 49:37 version. Whoever did that one had the camera too close to the set ,as I heard this 'bass' sounding um..'bounce' nosie every now & then.

Anyway ,obviously bad quality aside ,it's about what I exprected for a show from early in the series. The generation gap ,hippie beliefs and mello-dramatic acting

*SPOILER!!*(kind of) I also knew that one of the fathers had done it.

As well as the hokey ending :

"I want to live! " Isn't that wild?!"  Then runs out the door
jumping for joy and turning in circles ,ending up splashing in the water. 

A bit out of place in an episode with such a dark theme.
...but ,now that I've seen it ,I can go into Seasons 9 to 12 ,knowing I will see 'all' of the series.

On the more serious side :

The only thing 'really' shocking (besides the fact of a bikini clad woman
being hanged) is the young 13 year old boy who talks openly about drugs and other adult themed subjects. (Shocking for 1970.)

Other than these 2 things ,there's nothing here in the show itself that
really should be keeping this from being on a cleaned up ,color corrected DVD.

Going back to the family of that person who made the attempt to
copy the 'yoga' with the rope and ended their life....I am sorry for their loss.

On the other hand ,it was a long time ago and I beleive the odds of anyone else attepting it are next to 0. There's far worse things people can see in movies and TV and most especially in real life, than in this particular show ,that is now just over 45 years old.
