James beck is the best.
My Favourite Character is Walker play by the wonderful James Beck. he died way to young and should be still with us. Dads was not the same without him.

It certainly lost a vital character who was never adequately replaced, however I'd say it was different, but just as good, without him.
I loved him too - Walker was a believable, well-rounded character. With his experience and worldly wise attitude, he could have run rings around Mainwaring, but decided to be a (fairly) well-behaved member of the squad. I loved the way, if Mainwaring told him off, he would sometimes just smile to himself when he COULD have told him to eff off. He was compassionate and helpful (even when there was nothing in it for him!) to his colleagues and most of the time was a very professional soldier.
There was an incredible sadness and irony in James Beck - on the surface a healthy young man - dying before any of the others.
Awight we're The Daamned we're a punk baand and this is called Carn't Be Appy T'day!
one of the things that made him so appreciated was his absolute smirking delivery of some rather obvious lines, and his perfect timing after the set up
shareTotally Agree. To add to your observations, interestingly Walker was the only member of the platoon to stand up for Private Godfrey when the others were picking on him in the “Branded” episode.
shareI completely agree. James Beck was such a talented actor who sadly passed away far too young. Private Joe Walker was also one of my favourite characters in the show.
sharehe is wonderful. It was never as good after he left. I particularly disliked that awful unfunny Welshman they tried to replace him with.
shareThe only good thing about that was that they didn't recast the Private Walker character. Thankfully they quickly realised their mistake and wrote Mr Cheeseman out again.
