Pretty much what I was saying when that movie came out.
Funny story; I was in Midtown Manhattan one time during the 1990's buying an old record... another one of Fred Karlin's works, when I mentioned this movie and I met a woman who's cousin was in the movie. I asked if her cousin was one of the "Sigma Surpremes" who called Jerry Amdur a "whitey-lovin' plow boy," and she laughed at my imitation of the girl, but said it wasn't her cousin. She said something to the effect of "this could never be remade," and I told her it was. She was quite surprised when I said so, and then I sarcastically replied that it was called "Dangerous Minds."
We had a few laughs over this, and she was surprised to find that it was available on VHS. I never saw her again, and the record shop is gone now.
Awesome story here Ddey65 ! Thanks for sharing it with us here .
shareI'm actually watching this movie right now on TCM ( Turner Classic Movies ) for the very first time and thought this movie was more like " To Sir , With Love " also from 1967 too ( I will have to watch " Dangerous Minds " again soon it's been a few years since I have seen it so I will have to take your word for it ) . Of course this movie has a few differences from TSWL - a female teacher instead of a male teacher and the setting in this one was New York USA instead of ( according to Wikipedia ) " North Quay Secondary School in East End of London England " . Of course there are a few other difference in details between both of these movies too - but for now these are the top two important ones . This movie is excellent so far just like TSWL was IMPO . Thanks master_of_all for your subject post .

To Sir, With Love
Troubled inner-city school youth. We get it. Many more films of varying quality between To Sir, With Love and Dangerous Minds. I don't know if any of this subgenre occurred before Blackboard Jungle though.
