Up The Down Staircase

I found these two to be remarkably similar, anyone else? I like them both equally as they focus on different social matters but thought it was interesting they came out around the same time and have a lot in common.

Other than the fact that they were both in the equivalent of inner-city schools I find little in common. TSWL did not have to deal with suicide and UDS was set in a school where the kids changed classes. Different countries, based on true stories, One male teacher and one female teacher, both in their first assignments, one trained in teaching and one not trained. Sandy Dennis had a lot to deal with in being young, pretty, and dealing with teenage hormones from the male students. Sidney did not have to deal with teenage hormones and he did not get a break from the most annoying students. Both were based on good books. The difference is very apparent if you read the books they were based on.

Yeah, after having read both books and watching both movies I absolutely agree, two films from 1967 about new teachers trying to make a difference in the sometimes complicated world of instructing teenagers that culminate in school dances, I don't know how I got the idea they were similar...
