Why don't they make movies like this anymore?

And have actors with a gentle warmth like Sidney Poitier.

The people who go to the movies most wouldn't stand for it. They're the audience of Transformers, Harry Potter and Avengers. That's not to disparage them - though they ARE idiots, with all due respect.

Hmm, I guess that all the critics/moviegoers that loved The Avengers. the Harry Potter movies, and any other fantasy movie must be idiots, too, by your reckoning.

All that I know is that you're a snobby *beep* with no tolerance for anything that isn't 'real' to you.

The first thing that came to mind was "Lean on Me" with Morgan Freeman. Not quite the same. but then again, there is nothing about our educational system that resembles the systems that were around in the 60's- for better and for worse.

After all, is it even possible for a teacher to completely abandon the "approved curriculum" and teach "Life 101" on their own accord? That teacher would be out on their ear in three days.

But I think there's plenty of room for movies like this. The problem is the profit motive and risk. If they would just see that great teen drama films make good money and are less risky than something called "Jack & Jill" ("OMG! Adam Sandler dressed like a twin sister! Heeelarious! Box Office gold!") or anything with Jennifer Aniston in it, then maybe we'd see more great teen dramas to round out the offerings at the multiplex.

My "#3" key is broken so I'm putting one here so i can cut & paste with it.

Correct (though if you check my original post, I was actually referring to the audience so you didn't need to repeat that).

Except (for you) the fact the said movie was quite entertaining, something that most critically acclaimed movies can't really muster.

They did make a sequel as a TV movie in 1996's "To Sir, with Love II".

Morals, plain & simple.

If you like inspirational teacher dramas like this one, go watch:

-Stand and Deliver (1987)
-Freedom Writers (2007)

Quit the coincidence that all these great movies are spread 20 years apart.

they dont make movies like this any more because now everything has to have a PC element to it and that usually takes away the magic that makes a film like TSWL great
