Clothing/Wardrobe
I guess it was a budget issue, but did you notice that the students wore the same clothes in almost every scene. I found it very distracting. Enjoy the performances though.

sharethey were poor! did not have closets full of clothes.
"A daffy woman constantly strives to become a star..."
I noticed that on Bonanza, too. Ben, Adam, Hoss, and Joe wore the same clothes in every episode! Imagine Adam's closet: just a long row of black shirts and black pants.
shareI can't speak for this film, but the BONANZA regulars wore the same outfits so the produers/editors could match earlier footage with recent footage. But because Lorne Greene's toupee changed over the years, it gets a mite disconcerting to see "Pa" with maybe three different hairdos in the course of one episode.
May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?
They looked really stylish for East End slum kids!

momsabeach answered correctly. They were poor students and as far as Thackery, if you listed to him, he also said this was a new job for him and later on his work history and how he was poor.
Swing away, Merrill....Merrill, swing away...share
Here I thought this was going to be a discussion on the styles of that time.
These students didn't have a whole lot of money when it came to clothing. They were poor.
Notice, they did clean up nice for the graduation dance! Great threads!
