The nightclub scene

I thought the movie was terrific. Lee Marvin was great. A terrific tale of revenge, or was it all in his mind as he lay dying from a gunshot wound at the drop in a now-closed Alcatraz?

I had a question and an observation. My question is this: in the nightclub scene about 30 minutes into the film, was that Ned Beatty at the table near the stage shouting with the performer? The actor looked like Ned Beatty, who was in, Deliverance, another film directed by John Boorman. Perhaps someone could answer my question.

I also had an observation. It concerns the Keenan Wynn character, Yost, whom the viewer first meets with Walker on the tourist boat circling Alcatraz, one year after Walker was shot. Based on this early scene I thought Yost worked for the police or the FBI, and his goal was to break up the organization. As the film played out, particularly with the ending, it became clear that he was a rival gangster.

I always wondered if it was Ned Beatty also, apparently it wasn't. Just an extra who bore a striking resemblance.

From what I have gathered, Yost/Fairfax is the same person and was cleaning house on his organization. He was using Walker as a way to eliminate his subordinates without actually doing the heavy lifting himself.

And yet one non sequitor for me was that the method Fairfax uses to take out Brewster didn't really require Walker at all (the hit could have taken place anywhere, anytime). And even theorizing he was going to 'blame' Walker for killing Brewster (to other members of his gang say), an autopsy would have shown the rifle/sniper method instead of the pistol/in your face method Walker would have used.
