Can someone tell me

I'm being serious. Was this movie the inspiration for Monty Python?

I love Monty Python and they perfected silly monotony, but this film was made to be made. By this, I mean it was made for the director alone. To show that he could make a film about everything and nothing in the world, all at once. I won't lie, I found it absolutely horrible, but loved the little jokes, like the mirrored stories, the playful stuff like the door gag and "strip tease." What I didn't like was the pointless dialogue and found it would have been a much better silent film. I will chalk this one up to simply not being my taste and yes, I completely understood the point(s), I just didn't appreciate them all in this film.

The Criterion releases feature introductions by Terry Jones (who mentions seeing this film when it was first released in the theater) so I wouldn't be surprised if there was an influence. Certainly various MP scenes do come to mind (even whole episodes, like the "Michael Ellis" one.)

Thank You! I watched it late at night and now I remember seeing the Introduction, but not watching it. That probably put it into my head, along with some of the scenes. Thanks for confirming I haven't lost my mind yet, haha
