Who would you have cast as Raksha (Mother Wolf)?
If Raksha (Mother Wolf) had been given any lines in Disney's The Jungle Book, who do you think would have been, or who would you have cast to play her voice?
As Disney animated films tended to reuse many of their actors--most of the cast of The Jungle Book either had previously been in, or returned as voices in future animated films (Phil Harris, Sebastian Cabot, Sterling Holloway, J. Pat O'Malley, Bruce Reitherman, Verna Felton, Clint Howard, Lord Tim Hudson, Ben Wright).
Because of this, I can imagine some of the following Disney female voice actors from that time period being likely to play the part:
• Barbara Luddy - Best known as the voice of Lady from Lady and the Tramp, Merryweather from Sleeping Beauty and Kanga from Winnie the Pooh. However, because the only wolves with speaking parts in The Jungle Book were played by Brits, I would expect the other wolves to have similar accents.
• Monica Evans - Voice of Maid Marion from Robin Hood and Abigail from The Aristocats)
• Lisa Davis - Voice of Anita from 101 Dalmatians. Why not pair Rama (who was played by Ben Wright, voice of Roger) with his 101 Dalmatians wife?
• Martha Wentworth - While her role as Madam Mim in The Sword in the Stone doesn't exactly put her in mind as being a good candidate for the part, some of her roles in 101 Dalmatians (Nanny, and in particular, Queenie the cow) show that she can also play a nurturing motherly part convincingly.
• Betty Lou Gerson - Don't let her signature Disney role as the 101 Dalmatians villainess Cruella De Vil fool you. Gerson also narrated the intro to Cinderella. Give it a listen, and it's not hard to imagine the same voice coming from Mother Wolf. In fact, this would probably be my first choice.
