Does this movie make any sense?
I know it's a movie and everything but why the hell wouldn't someone just come up behind one of these guys and knock em the *beep* out.

shareIt's just the mentality of the people in the NY/NJ area. When i was back east and took the train no one cared about the other passengers. We just wanted to hurry and get to where we had to go and mind our own business. Only when it directly affects do you actually give a damn.
shareexactly, when the dude was trying to steal the baby the army guy just had enough. and he stood up, but the guy pulled out a knife. plus, the insane chaos the two were showing scared everyone *beep*
shareIt's a great message about how society reacts towards bullies. Even teachers in school stand by and ignore these problems, so it makes perfect sense that people would stand by and do nothing.
shareI saw this film on TV when I was about 12 or 13 and have never forgot it. I'm a New Yorker and the streets were mean back then. I have always thought this film was a quasi response to the famous Kitty Genovese case in 1964 where 37 people witnessed and heard her screams on a Queens, NY street and ignored it. She was stabbed 19 times and then raped. Google "Kitty Genovese" and be shocked. I still am over 40 years later. www.crimelibrary.com has a great article on her.
Great film! Glad NYC is a different place now.

I am sure it was just for creative license to tell the story. But perhaps it was just by chance that all of the people in the train were just not that type.
shareI think the whole point of the movie was to show how selfish people can be. I think it's a pretty realistic reaction too. Even at more "hardcore" places like bars/clubs when someone tries to pick a fight, there is often no one that will help.
This train also had a lot of older people on it, who would stand no chance against two young, vicious, and possibly armed men. I would have expected the other soldier to be less of a pussy though, but I guess even the army has them.
I know we'd like to think people will always come to the aid of their fellow man, but that just isn't that case a lot of the time, especially in a big city where everyone is anonymous.
This is true ive seen real vidios where someone is harrased and people just stand there.

It's a "movie and everything". Wouldn't "movie" (along with everything else) be a subset of "everything". So you really could have just opened your post by saying "I know it's everything". That way you wouldn't be redundant.
shareYou don't understand how colloquial speech works. This is a movie forum, not a term paper.
