The Mountains

when polanski is on the roof of the castle, in the backround there are painted matts with mountains and forests. is it me and my weirdness or does it take anyone else's breath away?

reply

No, it's not just you. Everytime I watch this movie I put my DVD on still and enjoy this sight. I love this scenery.

reply

It got me too!

Just another small piece of many (too many to mention!) why I love this movie, especially after seeing that bag of equipment go rolling waaaay down that snowy cliff! I guess people who gripe and rag on this great movie just can't appreciate such subtle beautiful nuance.

This film was beautifully filmed, it was respledant. Does someone know where it was filmed, if the castle interiours were authentic or simply fantastic sets?

Not so sure but I read somwhere the castle was actually build in London - Shepperton or Pinewood Studios.

the interior is a set in a real castle i think and it is the same castle in Where Eagles Dare. Which is interesting because Count Von Krolak is a Nazi general in that film and is in the same room where his library is in the FVK. I think i heard that particular room is opened for tourists.

reply

No, there was no "real castle." It was all sets and matte shots, even the exterior of the castle when they enter and escape was a set. I'm not sure that the same set was used in WHERE EAGLES DARE either. I have both movies on DVD and they don't look the same to me.

reply

Both films were made at MGM Borehamwood so I guess it's possible elements from the Vampire Killers set were reused for Eagles two years later (Ferdy Mayne certainly looks at home in both).

I saw this movie when I was about 15 and did not appreciate it...but as an adult..
I found it to be perfect...and YES the mountains are awesome...

it took my breath away too, and still does.....
I can recommend you an artist who paints covers for metal bands and his work I guess is very influenced by movies like ''the fearless...''
his name is NECROLORD and did some arts for the bands DISSECTION and EMPEROR.
EMPEROR: ''in the nightside eclipse'' is just a great artwork and really reminds me a little bit of ''the fearless...''
check it out!!
