painting scene introduction to his excellency
Did anyone else get seriously uncomfortable when observing the painting with all the deformed faces and the eery music the first time?
I have seen many horror movies, also most by polanski, and aren't easily phased but, it really got to me. It's very well done, the score, how the camera swaggers and observes, as the protagonist (polanski) first walks by then stops in his tracks and sees suddenly what monstrous portraits are on the wall.
It really eered me.
Great movie, funny in the right places, a fairytale for not quite the children.
You can see many seeds here, staples of his later work and style.
