Reisman's rank
It's interesting to note that he was a captain in the book so I guess they decided to promote him to major in the movie.

shareWho had a higher rank, Gen Worden (Borgnine) or Denton (Robt Webber)?
I always assumed it was Worden except last night I saw it and noticed that in the scene where he laughs/chokes on his scotch at something Lee Marvin said, he apologizes to Denton.
Given the importance and difficulty of the mission, the fact that there was no supervision above him, and the fact that he looked older than most Army captains in WW2, Major seemed to be a more appropriate rank.
shareYes, I think it was strictly a matter of Lee Marvin looking way too old to be a captain.
shareReisman was an officer with the OSS, so his 'pugnacious' attitude always left me with the idea that he didn't particularly care about rank - mission first, pomp and circumstance much later. Major was appropriate for Marvin, at least where the film was concerned - enough to command some respect and leverage, taking into account his age, and still junior (though not a junior officer) enough to be an aloof thorn in the side to those who placed emphasis on rank and command structure.
Objection, your Honor. You can't preface your second point with first of all.
I have an outline of a spoof called:
"THE SLOPPY 7"
Where the leader is Major Niceman
Get it?
Only my story takes place after the "Cold War" ends.
Where the army hasn't much to do so they have a cooking/baking contest.
The 7 are GIs who keep failing service schools.
