remake yes yes yes yes yes

I pray that never happens

It could happen. But the cast was so good in the original that I'm afraid that most cast members of the remake would be compared unfavorably with the original guys. Lee Marvin himself said that he cast was perfect.

How could anyone match Telly Savalas as Maggott? Or Cassavetes as Franko? Or Lee Marvin as Reisman or Robert Ryan as Breed. Harrison Ford 25 years ago could have played Reisman well, but he is way too old now.

Why do we need remakes? I don't think any movie should be remade. It's almost never as good, why not have a movie which is original?

reply

I don't care for remakes, either. However, in this particular case, it wouldn't be too difficult to make it better than the original.

reply

Are you kidding? It's a great movie, a remake would be average at best I'm sure.

reply

You're entitled to your opinion. I find it mildly entertaining. I give it a ' 7 ', which is fairly respectable. I actually own it, because Robert Ryan is in it, and he's my favorite actor. I collect anything and everything I can of his work. So far, about 50 titles.

reply

Fair enough.

' Paths of Glory ' is my favorite war film, even though it's actually an anti-war film.

reply

You reminded me of it. I liked it too, maybe more then this movie. Great movie either way. I forget to add I watched it so thanks for reminding me.

Hey srklondie- I hope you just enjoyed TCM channel's Star of the Month- Robert Ryan. Showed SO many of his films. And they did a good job providing stories and acting analysis or appreciation.

reply

I sure did. All 38 of them. I own about fifty of Ryan's performances, but there were a couple of the screened films that I wasn't familiar with, so I recorded them. Anyway, I made it clear to all of my acquaintances that I'd be incommunicado on Fridays in May. Since you contacted me, I assume that you're somewhat a Ryan fan, too. Good for you.

Anyone desiring a remake of this classic is the Anti-Christ ~

While TDD isn't one of my favorite Robert Ryan films, I pretty much have no use for remakes of anything.

reply

I don't think there's any point in doing a remake when the story can't be updated. Unless you've got a black and white original.

reply

If Spielberg makes it then yes.

Personally, i hope that they never do a remake of The Dirty Dozen .. it's one of my personal favorites of all time .. that amazing cast, many of whom were WW2 veterans, could not be duplicated today, and Robert Aldrich did everything right, from building the nazi chateau, to refurbishing WW2 vehicles, and finding great locations to shoot .. i've seen this film at least a dozen times, and will watch it again..

Inglorious Basterds
was a remake, to some extent. It definitely had some of the spirit of this film. Or perhaps it makes a direct remake redundant.
