That's nothing. I'm sure you know the running time of Empire and Sleep. 190-220min is just long enough.

Theres many many good films which have a longer running time than that. Fanny and Alexander, Empire, Greed (originally), Napoleon, etc. The longer the film the better!

shareI just saw "Chelsea Girls" today, screened at a really tiny art studio in Charlotte. They decided to project it in four images side-by-side and on top of each other (like one big square separated into four smaller squares) instead of just two images side-by-side. This cut the running time for the entire film down to 110 minutes. Now I've never seen the original 210-minute presentation, but I liked the four pictures and thought that this way was pretty cool. The projectionist had to choose which one of four audio tracks to play, so a lot of the dialogue was absent, but it wasn't really important anyhow so it doesn't seem like a big deal. The movie flowed well and I was never bored.
There were about twenty people in attendance and only three walked out. When the movie ended everyone was enthusiastic and gave it a big round of applause.
The presentation sounds reminiscent of the Marilyn pieces, as well as his later private portraiture in the 1980's.
