Attention 'The Prisoner' board: starting ep. 1 Friday, January 2nd

Greetings, "The Prisoner" board. We are a group of folks that like to watch old one-season shows from the beginning and working all the way through to the end. We watch one show a week on Friday and then discuss over the next few days. Anyone here who is interested, we will start episode 1 on Friday, January 2nd, 2015. We have never failed to finish a show. The previous shows we have watched are:

The Time Tunnel (1966)
Kolchak: The Night Stalker (1974)
Night Gallery (1969) (Season 1)
Voyagers! (1982)
The Lone Gunmen (2001)
Wonderfalls (2004)
Tales of the Gold Monkey (1982)
Firefly (2002)
Odyssey 5 (2002)
Pushing Daisies (2007)
Journeyman (2007)
God, the Devil and Bob (2000)
Day Break (2006)
Dark Skies (1996)
Brimstone (1998)
The Middleman (2008)
Caprica (2009)
Invasion: Earth (1998)
Planet of the Apes (1974)

Come and join us and let's have some fun. Word of caution though, we can be pretty harsh in some of our criticism of these shows and have ruffled feathers of some pre-existing board members in the past. We mean no harm just calling it the way we see it, we also tend to disagree with each other on whether it's a good episode or not. Early members of our group mocked Night Gallery's Moon Mouse, but isn't the moon made of cheese anyway? But yes, I agree Time Tunnel's Ghost of Nero is pretty irredeemable... LOL.

Some of us are still having nightmares with alien abductions, middle people, hell escapees, N-dimensional aliens... And with the identity crisis of our last show, we're hoping the good moments will outshine the bad ones. After all, life on a calm and idyllic village calls for a light and peaceful TV-watching experience, right?

Anyway, looking forward to episode 1 to see what we have gotten ourselves into this time. See you on the 2nd.

Well, I knew this day would come. I must bid the group farewell for now. I have become burned out and the thought of trudging through 17 episodes of the bizarre prisoner is just to much for me. One more ancient one down the tubes :) The group seems to be in good shape and Madp has done admirably as the Mod. WLCEBTG and DT will remain as official historians.
Rover has told me I am not allowed in the village so I will go my separate way for now. Wish you guys well and I'll drop in from time to time to see whats up.
Be good, take care, and I'll see you all, somewhere along the infinite corridors of time.

Charmed, I hate to see it happen. I have no one left to consistently disagree with! And this leaves wlcebtg as the only one left who has stuck it out all the way from "Rendezvous With Yesterday".

But I called a hiatus of my own a few years back, when life just got too crazy. My advice--and hope--is that you keep lurking to keep track of us until you're ready to rejoin us.

Until then, so long and best wishes, my friend.

I'll be around. I've got a couple of things going on right now...selling a house, building a house and really both are a beating. My house is torn apart and yada yada. I'll return at some point just like a bad penny. Thanks for the good wishes.

Wow, that came as a shock and I had to collect my thought before I replied.

I can't speak for your reasons, charmed, so I'll speak about mine. In 2010, I left the dreaded Monkey show (at that time) never to return. Well, I'm not sure I'd consider that giving up, since it was my first effective show, and I had done just a couple episodes, and then came back in the next, Firefly, and stayed ever since. I can't believe it's been four years already...

But anyway, at that time I left for two reasons: I hated the choice the group had made, and I felt my opinion was being valued. We can't do anything about enjoying a show like The Prisoner, but we sure can work on the second, if that happens to be your case. Therefore, here I am hoping you change your mind so we can work on the second issue.

I've always considered this little "game" of ours as an interesting experience in human interaction and coordination, so this is why I wish everybody could have the best time possible.

At least I haven't chased everybody away, but I do fear for the group's stability without your inspiring presence. I really hope we can go on fine. Wish us the best please.

When the guy who had the whole idea to begin our operation leaves, we, of course, question ourselves, and this makes us reflect. Now I realize this is my 13th show, and 9th as Moderator, and that the group has existed longer with me than without me. But I feel the real test comes now.

But we have to accept that everything comes to an end. I've been involved with Internet groups since about 1997, and managed to stay connected for years, but no matter how long people persist, eventually they drift apart. Sometimes it's just because they develop other interests, others for more serious issues, like stress, health, and even passing away.

By the way, wlcebtg and dtmuller, for historical purposes, don't even think about taking some time off!

Time off. I hope that what this is all about, charmed. And that you come back soon.

Maybe you can catch us when we do The Prisoner (2009)? Silly banter, I know.
Perhaps we'll do a comedy next.

All the best for you, charmed.

Hey Madp,
As I spoke of to DT, I have quite a bit going on right now and I have a real issue with the prisoner that dates back to the 70's. As I said I knew it would happen at some point either UFO or The Prisoner would do me in, it just happened to be the prisoner.
The other and probably most important reason for ousting myself from this show is there is just no way I can give it a fair shake. Unlike dark skies where it seemed that I had condemned the show before I watched it (not the case) This show I have seen and just hated and vowed never to watch again. I also feel the tastes of the group have become increasingly different to mine. the predilection to heavy drama is just not my thing. The writing was on the wall when the last show I was really excited about was the Middle Man and unfortunately the majority of the group did not care for it. I will still be around if for no other reason than I'm afraid if I leave you guys alone you will Hurt yourselves...lol.
Your group will do well and I suspect you will pick up more folks here as well. Leave a light on for me and I will find my way home at some point.

Please tell me you meant you thought your opinion wasn't being valued. Otherwise, that's a bizarre reason for wanting to leave the group.

It just so happens that I'm the follower of the philosopher of Karl Marx. Or is it Groucho's? Anyway, I'm sure it was one of the brothers.

"I do not care to belong to a club that accepts people like me as members."

Ha, ha! No, seriously. It was a typo and you caught it.

For those who are catching our exchanges just now and may think we bring too many unrelated "Prisoner" talk, that may be true, but because of us, you'll have several reviews of each episode. That should make up for the unrelated talk.

And it all starts tomorrow!

Agent Stone will be back. This ones going to be tough I do remember watching this when it came to the States. I hope someone can explain to me what's happening with the show it was so so so strange. That bubble kept running him down and catching him that's about all I remember.

In my heart this ones better than UFO, but I find myself watching episodes of UFO every now and then.

reply

I remember watching a few episodes back when I was in high school and college. All I really remember is "Many Happy Returns", the ending of "Chimes of Big Ben" (just enough to spoil the surprise) and part of "Fall Out", which I never understood, in part, I think, because I never saw any of the previous episode.

I know I saw more than that, but that's all I remember. I'm sure more will come back as I watch it.

reply

Well, I have to admit I have never seen a single entire episode (except for a few scenes here and there), but I've heard so much about the show that it's like I know it well enough. And I've seen the 2009 version. I'm sure if we all put our heads together, we'll be able to solve this conundrum.

Sorry to see Charmedwon666 go.

I had a friend back in the 1980's in college who used to talk about this show all the time and I never saw it and it wasn't available on VHS back then. I rented the series on VHS from Blockbuster video back in the late 1990's. I would rent one or two episodes every week usually on Monday. I bought the DVD's when they came out in 2001.

madp, it's very British, very 60's pop culture. It's original and pretty thought provoking for a tv show.

madp: I'm sure if we all put our heads together, we'll be able to solve this conundrum.
Undoubtedly. But how many mutually contradictory "solutions" will we come up with? (By my count, there's five of us, so there should be at least seven.)
