The 'Ironside' Season 1 episode 'Girl In The Night' is very similar to the Season 2 episode of 'The Virginian', 'A Portrait of Marie Valonne'. And I now see why. Dean Riesner wrote that Virginian episode and provided the story for the Ironside episode.
Madlyn Rhue played the luckless Marie Valonne whose fate was similar to that of Susan Saint James' character in 'Girl In The Night'. Mark Richman (later Peter Mark Richman) played the Donnelly Rhodes part.

It seems the folks at Universal knew a good story when they saw one. I think the main reason both episodes work is because of the casting. Susan was very likeable with her kooky, hippy vibe. The lovely Madlyn had that other-century charm.
