Regarding Girl in the Night

I was kind of surprised when Ironside made a reference to Ed as a "john," which suggests that he thought the singer was a prostitute. Did the term have the same connotation in 1967 as it does today or did someone just slip some term past the censors that your average viewer wasn't familiar with back then?

"He IS Redstone."

I have no idea whether the word "john" had a different connotation back in '67, but it's possible. I remember the episode in question, and perhaps the context of Ironside's comment matters. Perhaps he meant that Ed was simply a pawn, was "used" by the woman for some unknown purpose, and that's what he meant by john. Of course, it could also have been referred to as a patsy (hmm, yet another proper name that is also a euphemism).

There's also "mark," as in "easy mark." I can see why the writers wouldn't have Ironside use that term.
