Love MeTV. I saw that episode, too! Thought back to my '78 Ford Mustang and The Beach Boys "Endless Summer" 8-track (among others)!

You had me there on memory lane right up until... Pink Lady. Pink Lady?? Your mentioning them reminded me of something I hadn't thought of in years (well, decades). Back when Saturday Night live first started, they used to go to commercial breaks with bogus on-screen announcements, like, "Coming next: Jimmy Carter and Leonid Brezhnev Sing Show Tunes" or whatever. Anyway, one of them that I remember was, "Up Next: Pink Lady and Floyd." The mind reels just trying to imagine that pairing.

The other thing that people today won't exactly understand is the tape piracy angle. Today the problem is file sharing but back then it was pirated tapes, because, relatively speaking, records were REAL expensive. Mark crows about buying a tape for only $2.95 (list then would have been around $4.95). This sounds cheap today but if you adjust for inflation in today's dollars those would be equivalent to $14.00 and $23.50, respectively. How much are CDs today?

And the pirated tapes were often back room productions where they sometimes didn't even bother making professionally looking labels - just rinky-dink typewritten ones. I remember my brother once bought one from some back woods country store. At the very beginning of the tape, you could hear the sound of the needle being placed on the record! You definitely got what you paid for.
