Raymond Burr's Life Experiences and Ironside

I just read an interview that Raymond Burr gave to TV Guide in 1969. I've come to the conclusion that the tough circumstances that he experienced in his life greatly influenced his portrayal in Ironside. There are personality traits that both Raymond Burr and Ironside shared. Wwhat do you think?

I also read a biography of Raymond Burr. With the divorce of his parents when he was 6 and helping to raise his younger siblings, the various injuries that he sustained in his life before Ironside, it's no wonder that he could bring a character to life who, on one hand, was both a somber, somewhat sad individual, but showed strength in the face of adversity. Both the character and the actor were dynamic individuals.
