Elizabeth Baur
Well.....
I was too young to remember "Ironside". Though I remember it vaguely. I only
have one thing to say about that TV Show.
Elizabeth Baur was FINE!!!

FINE,MAYBE,BUT SHE WASN'T AS GOOD AS BARBARA ANDERSON.'NUFF SAID!
Barbara Anderson was the better looking of the two, too good looking, she looked more like someone on spring break from university or a high fashio model than a cop. In the pilot Eve says that she was from an old money family and bucked the trend by becoming a cop. Actually Eve had more of a toughness about her like she could defend herself in a brawl if she had to. Liz Baur seemed more delicate. In 1967 Eve was the only lady cop on TV so she had to be perfect for her era. Liz Baur wasn't bad, but its funny that she did almost nothing else afterwards. She had a small part as a cop in a miniskirt in the last episode of Batman.
sharesweet1310452: Both Eve and Fran exhibited their mastery of the martial arts in subduing felons--respectively: one would-be felon, and one who mistakenly seemed to be at first. Although it was an impressive display on both occasions, I would have to conclude it was even more so in viewing delicate and petite Fran via various martial arts moves repeatedly throwing around a tall, well muscled spanish matinee idol-looking intruder in the chief's office like he only weighed a few pounds! As to that "Batman" TV Series appearance: Liz did that prior to her stint on Ironside. Her last acting role before she reprised her portrayal of Fran Belding in the TV movie, "The Return Of Ironside" in 1993 was a guest part in an early 1980's episode of the TV series, "Fantasy Island." In my estimation Barbara Anderson and Elizabeth Baur were equally blessed with exceptional beauty--each in their own unique way, and their respective characters, Eve and Fran, could both be very tough, and very smart when the situation called for it. I have nothing but the highest admiration and respect for each these very fine actresses, and consider the singular contributions they each in turn successively made to the "Ironside" TV series nothing less than irreplaceable.

I agree that both actresses had their own qualities that made them both great for the part of the female team member. Eve could stand up to the Chief and was smart, but cared greatly for the Chief. Fran knew Ironside from when she was a child and seemed to be more down to earth. She also showed her love for the Chief with her hugs and kisses on the cheek. It's interesting that both women retired from acting after the last Ironside movie. I wonder if Raymond Burr had not died in 1993, and there were other Ironside movies, would they have returned to do more movies with him?
shareI have no doubt whatsoever that both actresses would have returned. The chemistry you saw between each of their characters, and Burr's Ironside was genuine. Working with Ray was truly special. Chief Ironside was the closest to what Ray was really like! A somewhat polished curmudgeon on the outside, and an equally impish boy on the inside who loved to play pranks, but was at the same time one of the most quietly loving, and compassionate individuals out there. He was a man who relished life, and lived it to the full in every way! Some years back Liz Baur, with a noticeable twinkle in her eye, in riley commenting on their final time being able to work together in early 1993 stated that she, and Ray once again had managed to discuss and solve all the problems of the world!
shareI would have loved to have met Raymond Burr. He seems to be a genuine person, as you have said. I know he put himself fully into his roles, but from what you said, he didn't have to "stretch" to be Ironside. I am so impressed with his portrayal of Ironside. He was so believable. I sense that Elizabeth Bauer and Raymond Burr were friends. They seemed to work well together in their characters and genuinely cared for each other as friends do. I saw the interview after Raymond Burr's death where Elizabeth Baur talked about Raymond Burr's conversation asking her to come back for "Return to Ironside". I could see how much she wanted to do that for him, and that it was the last time she saw Raymond Burr before his death. There has not been a series since "Ironside" that has presented a person dealing with their physical challenge in the way that Ironside did.

I almost spoke to Ray on the phone back in 1978 when I called Universal City Studios to find out if there were anyone remaining on the lot from Ironside who might be able to tell me anything about that beautiful building the Chief had had his office/living quarters in. The operator said just one moment, and the next thing I hear is, "Raymond Burr's office, Robert Benevides speaking." Robert is a former television actor, who became Raymond's long-time close friend, and business partner for many decades. He served as production executive on Ironside for Harbour Productions Unlimited, Raymond's, and his production company at the time. We talked for about ten or fifteen minutes. In 2003 I had met a young man working at an old, established lighting store in the city where I now reside whom it turned was a member of a family that had been good friends with Ray, and continue remain so to the present with Robert since they'd first all met on the beach in San Pedro back In the 1950's. Then in 2004 or thereabout I managed to reach Robert again, and discuss with him another matter regarding Ironside on the phone where he still is at up in Sonoma at the Raymond Burr winery he runs which he, and Ray had founded a few years before Ray's passing.
