Hi sue - I'm sue too! Thanks for your reply and info on how to watch Ironside. I would like to buy it on dvd, but it's expensive. We are giving some thought to getting Hulu, but I'll have to look into it a bit.
I was pretty little when Ironside was on and didn't watch it until now. I came to it in a round-about way, through Vera Miles. I remembered her from an episode of Medical Center from when I was ten yrs. old. It was on Youtube a couple years ago and she was stunning. So, I started on a treasure hunt, so to speak, for her work. That brought me to IMDB and Ironside.
It has been really fun and rewarding to watch these shows that I was too young to appreciate the first time around. There is some dated-ness, for sure. But what is so surprising is how NOT dated they are in most ways. The stories and acting are just as powerful and impactful because they deal with the human condition, which fundamentally doesn't change over time.
I love the episode "Barbara Who" because Ironside falls in love and he expresses this with a great deal of subtlety. But it is unmistakable how he feels. When she tells him she fell in love with him when he was in the hospital, his reaction was priceless. They were both such amazing actors, natural and understated and all the more powerful because of it.
I do remember when Don Mitchell passed away. I saw something on Youtube the other night that had Barbara Anderson, William Shatner and Peter Graves. She was gorgeous. I loved her character on Ironside.
Thanks for being a friend in Ironside! I sure hope they bring it back in the fall.
