what was the episode where Ed is arrested for something (I think murder, and he couldn't prove who he was. I seem to recall it being in a different city, and the waterfront was involved)? I loved the song that was played for that one, and the eppy guide apparently doesn't have a description for it, as I didn't see one that sounded like the one I'm thinking of.

I recall that there was an episode called "Seeing Is Believing" which is Episode 7 from Season 3, which episode has the same plot. This may be the episode that you were looking for.
There is also an episode in Season One in which Ed is in Vegas (for work, if you can believe that) and meets a beautiful singer. Later, Ed is knocked out and the girl disappears. I don't think Ed was arrested, though, so this might not be the one you're thinking of.
(Speaking of songs in this show, I think they used a particular song in two separate episodes. One was the ep in which a popular folk singer is found dead in an apparent suicide. One of her songs is played numerous times in the spisode, and I'm pretty sure the same song was used in a later season one episode about another singer. I hated the song, btw....)
In Nightmare Trip, Ed is arrested, but not for murder...he went to San Diego for both business (bringing back a prisoner) and pleasure (visiting an old friend at the S.D. naval base), but he gets mugged and robbed, and two cops think he's drunk and disorderly, so Ed plays along to experience getting arrested. He regrets it very quickly when he's thrown into a cell with psycho killer Don Stroud and the World's Most Interesting Man, Jonathan Lippe, playing amore rrepentant killer.
