Laredo meets The High Chaparral

Someone posted that they would have liked to see a High Chaparral/Bonanza crossover episode.I'd have loved to have seen a High Chaparral/Laredo crossover as these two western shows are my all time favorites.I could imagine a story which would have rangers Reese,Chad,Joe & Eric on the trail of a nasty group of outlaws & tracking them all the way from Texas to the Arizona Territory where the rangers meet the Cannon family. Both series were on NBC but unfortunately Laredo went off in 1967,the year that the HC debuted.

Trouble is, Texas Rangers' authority stops at the State Line. To track outlaws clear across New Mexico and a big chunk of Arizona makes no sense at all for Rangers. Maybe that's why it never happened.

From time to time the Rangers on Laredo would "accidentally" wander into Mexico while chasing a gang & they certainly had no authority there either. In fact, that was the plot for the Laredo pilot which appeared on The Virginian TV series.

Texas is right across the Rio Grande river from Mexico, not a great distance. Laredo sits right on the Rio Grande, and is a very old crossing point. From Ranger Headquarters to the border crossing is probably a 5 minute ride. From Laredo, TX to Tucson, AZ is about 920 miles. Why in the hell would rangers ride that far? This premise is ignorant on it's face.

Oooh. That would have been a fantastic idea. I also loved Laredo. Reese (Neville Brand) was my favorite.
