Artwork in the credits

my aunt was very taken by the art work shown in the credits. Does anyone know where it might be available? Isn't the technique used here just painted photographs?

reply

I've recognized many of the "paintings" from scenes in first season episodes. One that is particularly easy to match is the painting of Big John aiming his rifle (after the commercial break between the Opening Credits and the small segment of credits before the main part of the show). It's from the second episode when the Apache's are attacking the ranch.

If it ain't broke, Obama will fix it until it is.

So you would agree these are not paintings?

I think these are photos in sepia

They are colored photos but it's interesting to see how much in 1967 they look like what we can do in a couple clicks of a computer with Photoshop now. Didn't have that back then. They had to do all the work by hand in a darkroom.

I may be wrong, but I believe that some of the images in the opening credits may have been taken from stills from a western film made a short time prior to HC. "40 Guns to Apache Pass (1966)" is a possibility.

Actually all of those scenes are from the first few episodes. I can see the similarities to 40 Guns, however these are very organic in that they originated from the show.
