The Cannons meets The Cartwrights

I have always thought that it would be real interesting to have a cross-over between The High Chaparral and Bonanza. Perhaps The Cartwrights could be delivering some cattle that was bought by John Cannon and then they could get ambushed by the Apachis. I can see Blue and Little Joe having a dispute and duke it out; Adam and Monolito could be singing the blues; and Hoss could mingle with someone, perhaps with Buck!

Too bad that David Dortort never thought of it!

It is far more likely that Blue and Little Joe would become good friends and have a friendly "fast draw" competition, then go into town to woo the ladies.

reply

Buck or Mano would be far more apt to woo the ladies. I think Blue boy was too shy!

reply

I always thought of the High Chaparral as being the Un-Bonanza. The show were the cowboys actually got dirty.

reply

Little Joe would be more likely to be friends with Mano. Bonanza began pre-Civil War - the first season was set in around 1858 - whereas Chaparral was post-Civil War. Joe would have been probably ten years older than Blue.

IIRC, The High Chaparral takes place at the same time period as Dr Quinn: Medicine Woman (late 1860's).

In that case, Dr. Quin would have made a fine Doctor in Tuscon, and she may have become a good fiend to Victoria. Lord knows, that lady needed a gal pal surrounded by all of those men!

reply

The one big problem I had with Bonanza is it was all filmed on a stage, High chaparral was the real thing.

reply

I agree, one of the things that mad the High Chaparral so realistic was that many outdoors scenes were filmed in Old Tucson, resulting in scenes in which you can almost feel the heat and smell the sweat.

With guns or fists, Little Joe would dismantle Blue Boy. Joe was a tough one.

Hop-Sing would dismantle Blue Boy!

Ben Cartwright would dismantle Blue Boy!

I would have loved to see THC meet Laredo(1965-'67).

Laredo was a brawling action adventure tv series about 4 Texas Rangers. What set it apart from most westerns was that the show had plenty of humor & laughs.

How about High Chaparral meet The Big Valley????
Both shows were great, and both were set in the same time period.
Think of the men, especially Manolito, buzzing around Audra! I doubt she'd have much to do with him. She strikes me as one who prefers the upper crust.
