Season 1 CD is out - WOW!

Whether or not TV-Guide liked this series, a lot of viewers did at the time and some of us never forgot. Now, for less than a buck an episode, anyone can have the 30 episodes comprising the first season. The color is absolutely gorgeous - although the process is not mentioned, it is on a par with the best Technicolor. The master material they used is flawless. So why is this a good series? Good writing, witty dialogue, funny situations, a measure of pathos, a wonderful cast that is obviously having great fun making the series, not to mention a major star in one of her most engaging early roles.

Sally Field comes across as SO likable in this series. Although, of course, I never met her, I have always felt like I did. Why? Because she is so natural and so downright pleasant that one cannot help but genuinely like her. Of course it is only a role, but she shines through as a genuine person. Later roles, that gave her the opportunity to show the depth of her acting ability, built on the foundation of The Flying Nun. Although I have heard her interviewed and expressing regret over the role, (she thought people were laughing AT her), she needn't worry. She was making lots of friends/fans with her portrayal of Sister Bertrille - a solid fan base that cheered her on in such films as Sybil and Norma Rae.

Although I have not seen this series since it was syndicated in the very early 1970's, it is just as clever and funny as ever. I am having great fun introducing my nieces and nephews to it for the first time and, guess what, THEY LOVE IT! And these are kids of the Heavy Metal & Hip Hop generation...I feared Sister Bertrille might not have a chance with them. Surprise! You will enjoy it too! Get the CD's while they are available, and hope they release the other two seasons!

i seen here in later roles when she was a lot older still reconised her :)
wonder if she still gets reconised as Sister Bertrille pity they didn;t get her to do commentary for it like other shows do it would been interesting what she would say now about the show and how popular it still is considering 2007 will be 40th Anniversary since it first debut on tv 9 july 1967 they released it a year early ;) they should release them all in a box set they probly will i'd say

Yes, I've heard Sally say that the TIMING of the show was the problem.

It was 1967-70 -- Hippies, free love, hard rock, Woodstock etc. - and SHE was running around as a goody two-shoes NUN that could Fly !

Rough or what !

Well, us kids weren't smoking pot and being a hippie. In 1967 I was 6 and thought hippies were dirty unkept pigs. Then when Sharon Tate was killed it confirmed it for me. But these shows did capture an innocence that is long gone. Sally should be proud she did a show that is so well remembered 39 years later. With the garbage they make today I'd rather watch fluff like this!
