Pismo Beach Guy--which episode?

Anyone out there remember which year/season/episode featured the weird little drunk guy who was driving up to Pismo Beach for a bowl of clam chowder? Friday's patient forbearance with him was gorgeous... Also, wasn't there a Sgt.Smith, NOT played by Harry Morgan--when was he Friday's sidekick?

that episode was the one with booby troupe in it as a bartender who runs some gambling action from behind the bar. It was from the first season episode#13 called "the big bookie". Harry morgan was still joe's partner but couldn't run the sting operation for fear of being made by the gamblers. on a side note it is one of only four episodes I believe that jack webb did not wear his traditional gray suit. by the way great episode

Friday was only in "soft clothes" for 5 (not 4) episodes during "Dragnet 1967-1970" -98 episodes...

Also... in the TV movie, Dragnet 69, Gannon retires and moves to Pismo Beach to take a guard job "at a small electronics plant there." When Joe encounters him later he tells Joe how eating the clams has "made a new man out of me" and that he wants to come back and work with Joe again. He tells him the only part of his physical he has left to pass is the blood test and that it shouldn't be a problem. Joe then says "Don't be too sure, they've probably never done a test on pure clam juice." One of my favorite movies of all time. It was actually filmed in 1966 but not released till 1969. Bobby Troupe was in this one too - I think all the same actors were used for every Dragnet show! Interesting that Bobby Troupe married Jack Webb's X-wife and raised his daughters and remained good friends with Webb.

Wasn't that the episode with Webb and Morgan plying a drunk with coffee. The hilarity in the scene was in the inebriate's gushing the liquid out as he ranted about, "...that dirty little Ernie" who left him stranded in Pismo Beach or something like that.

I know this post is really old, but I love that scene so I had to comment. The guy that played the drunk Pismo Beach guy also played a drunk guy on Adam 12. He was driving drunk and Reed and Malloy pull him over only to find out he's completely naked. He eeps trying to get out of the car while they're waiting for Mac to bring them a blanket for him.

"Everybody lies.."

Not only does he play a drunk on Adam-12 too, but in that scene, he remarks that he left his pants on Pismo Beach and "dirty Ernie" forgot to tell him he didn't have his pants! Cool inside joke for fans of Dragnet and Adam 12.

The Pismo Beach character first appeared on the radio series in the late forties and early fifties in an episode where they were running a road block asking drivers along a small highway if they had seen a missing Highway Patrolman. He drove up to the roadblock and was drunk and trying to find Pismo Beach and blaming "that dirty Ernie". Although it sounds like it might have been a different actor, it definitely is the same character in his first appearance.
