What's ironic, fa6947, is that in the very same episode, Friday calls one of the (white) patrolmen "boy" when he's talking to him in the break room.

reply

He's a raw recruit.'Boy' does not seem out of line, cause the recruit was.

And there was a Happy Days:

Fonzie: So Rich, I hear you got a black guy comin' here?
Richie: Uh, uh, actually, they prefer to be called negroes.

Being set in the fifties, I'm relatively sure "negro" was the more "correct" word. It stands out today, though.

reply

Well, there was an episode where Friday gets called a "Honky". Any one remember the episode, like to see it again and LMAO.

reply

Just shows some things never change. It isn't racially offensive if it's done to whites. (as well it shouldn't be, I don't care if anyone calls me honky)

I know you are but what am I?

reply

Friday called the white cop "boy" because it was acceptable. Only Jews can make fun of Jews. Only blacks can use the "n" word. George Lopez makes fun of Hispanics. I'm sure you've observed how that works.

It's "Negro," not "negro."
"May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?"

for the time, that was actually progressive
