The Very Best Episode of Dragnet

My favorite episode is "The Shooting Board." This is the episode where Sgt Friday goes into a laundromat to buy a pack of cigarettes and suprises a burglar slip-wiring a coin changer. The burglar fires first, missing Friday. Friday then returns fire killing the burglar. At first, there is no evidence that Friday fired in self-defense.

I loved "The Crimson Crusader" episode. Also, the "Blue Boy" episode ranks up there, too.

The Big High episode was hilarious. At the end, they showed the wife in a strait jacket- I loved it. Besides, after watching this episode, I was convinced smoking dope was a great idea. I mean, I didn't have any kids, so what could I lose. The Big Fur Burglary was great, too. The salon owner was way over the top. Friday and Gannon should have taken the free furs.


So, to sum it up in legal terminology: Get lost, you bum.

My fav is "The Big Prophet," where Friday and Gannon pay a visit to "The Temple of the Expanded Mind" and debate a cultish drug dealer over whether drugs should be legalized. Very well-written and acted, especially by Liam "Brother William" Sullivan. Surprisingly, both sides score points in the debate.

My vote goes to "Who Killed Who?" Four men are shot dead in a boarding house, and there are no apparent clues. Eventually the mystery is solved; the identity of the killer is a surprise, and his motive is a masterpiece of irony.

Oh, by all means the funniest episode is "Vice" where Joe and Bill go "undercover" to a farming equipment convention hotel to bust an illegal gambling operation. Totaly hilarious from beginning to end with endless funny quotes.

Chanin Hale is gorgeous and cute as the "lady" and Bill is awesome as the drink-buying dice playing "I'm gonna stomp on it" uh, farmer.

I agree with the Crimson Crusader but don't see it as funny at all. That acting by Tim Donnelly (who Webb would use again in Dragnet and cast as a regular on "Emergency.") was superb. He was so pathetic, so sad both in the squadroom and later when his mom was coming in his house and he wanted to become invisable.

And the wonderful subtle performance of the two leads was so enjoyable. Webb starts off obviously disliking the sheer stupidity of the suspect, but you see it change to true sympothy for this sad little man, someone who has been bullied his whole life.

Yeah, I didn't see it funny, just very well written, acted, and directed.
