Some of my friends think this show is boring but I...........

......LOVE IT! Part of it is nostalgia...this is "comfort TV" like they used to say on Nick at Nite when Nick at Nite was actually good. There is something about the square-ness of Dragnet that is actually very cool - like in a modern art or modern jazz way. I also love the reincarnate supreme Virginia Gregg! She pops up so often as different characters it's almost comedic !
Then we are saturated in MELODRAMA - thick syrupy MELODRAMA .... it's so stale that it's refreshing compared to the crap that's on TODAY. I love so many aspects of DRAGNET that it transcends what it REALLY is. Now that is a hard act to follow!
P.S. Jerry Seinfeld is a huge fan of the show. How bout that?

"In every dimension , there's another YOU!"

Maybe they should try yet another relaunch of Dragnet, with Sgt Jerry Seinfeld and Officer George Constanza.

I know that by many standards the series would not measure up to today's demands for action and explosions, etc. But every time I now watch one of the shows in the series I am reminded of why I liked it then. It was not excessively violent, often had some plot twists that were interesting, but admit that it was often too preachy for my taste (I *KNEW* drugs were bad already!), and most of all, when I watched that show I forgot for a few moments that Walter Cronkite signed off the CBS Evening News that evening after matter-of-fact announcing in a neutral, almost antiseptic tone of voice that yet another 350 US soldiers were killed that week in Vietnam. Also, to many of us Midwesterners, LA was this utopia where everyone hung out with movie stars, and lived the good life, except when there was civil unrest now and then. Webb always started each episode, with his iconic, "This is the City", and I knew that southeast Asia would not be mentioned for the next half hour. To me that was very much "comfort TV" as well.
