DRAGNET - Leaving Netflix July 15th, 2015

Just an FYI. Anyone who wants to get their streaming fill of Joe Friday and Bill Gannon better get moving.

I was addicted to the Hokey Pokey, but then I turned myself around.

I'm hoping that NETFLIX can get the rights again for streaming. Oddly enough, they will not lose other shows the Webb estate controls, such as EMERGENCY and ADAM-12.

Tydyed:

It's on Antenna TV.

Type it up and see if it's in your area.

Why is it doing that?

reply

Why is it leaving Netflix? For whatever reason, whoever controls the rights and Netlix allowed the contract to expire. Which side bailed? Was it mutual? I have no idead. I just wonder if it means other Webb shows will be leaving too. From what I understand from an older article I read (can't remember where - but it was awhile ago), the Webb estate is rather peculiar to deal with.

FYI - It's a 'rights' issue with Netflix too. Somebody is paid for every show on Netflix to be aired. When that contract expires, it's either renewed or not. Space isn't really an issue with NETFLIX. Streaming contracts are. Many times, a show or film disappears, only to reappear days/weeks later once the contract details are hashed out.

Agreed. Have AMAZON PRIME too - for the same reason - the shipping.

Unfortunately, a huge reason that classics are not broadcast that widely anymore, is because baby boomers are no longer the target demographic like they once were, and gen xers like me are also aging out. You'll notice that most things shown on TV are now geared toward gen Y and older millenials.

Look at what happened with TV land. It started out with a lot of older shows like Andy Griffith show, Good times, etc..then started leaning more toward 90s comedies...to finally non stop commercials.

Dragnet's "little brother", "Adam-12" is still shown, as well as MASH, but I could only count 6 classic TV series on Netflix.

Tydyed, I sure hope that some of these retro networks won't sell out. The younger generations already have so many entertainment venues just for them....just keep one or two for us over 40...lol.

They've lost a few recently, like DRAGNET and LEAVE IT TO BEAVER. But they have several others...

EMERGENCY!
THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW
THE TWILIGHT ZONE
STAR TREK
LEAVE IT TO BEAVER (Until the end of July)
ADAM 12 (Until the end of July)
THE MUNSTERS
THE ROCKFORD FILES
CLASSIC DR. WHO
MASH
ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS
HAWAII FIVE-O
THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW
THE NIGHT STALKER
COLUMBO

I'm hoping they add more.

It's on Cozi TV. They cut out a lot of content though.

Hulu has a lot of Dragnet eepisodes, possibly the entire run. As well as Adam 12.

An FYI, as of this post in January, 2017, both Dragnet (version from late 1960s) and Adam 12 are still on Hulu. Am trying to get through it all because these streaming services have a nasty habit of zapping some of these older series with virtually no advance warning when their contract runs out. Unlike some who have mentioned that their channels have pulverized and cropped episodes to run more ads, on my Hulu premium subscription the entire episode is there, including end credits.

Did I miss the deadline?

Netflix is teh suck.
