Superb acting all around

All the key actors were very good in this. However, Elizabeth Taylor stood out for me. What an incredible performance. Up there as one of the best acting performances.

I had seen this many years ago and haven't viewed it again until today because it is brutal and exhausting. It is one roller coaster ride and how Elizabeth Taylor (and Richard Burton) did not win an Oscar for this performance is beyond me. Liz in many of her 60's movies was not that great but she is totally transformed in WAOVW. It is a tour de force of acting and IMO she was robbed.

Elizabeth won her second Oscar for this film. It was Burton who didn't win.

she was somewhat miscast; needed a Ruth Roman type--or even (golly) the one who played it on Broadway

Yes, the acting was great! It was wonderful to see Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton together in this film, but the story line was really grating and grim.
