Does anyone else find the movie depressing?

Or just me?
It really was one of the saddest experiences I've had with a movie, obviously I'm not saying the film it's bad, but I feel that Bergman touch my feelings in the most negative way

I would agree at least on the surface level, speaking here of the narrative portion of Persona, that if one becomes invested in the relationship between Elizabet and Alma (as one of course should), that the ending leaves one depressed over where it went. But the film is really not about such surface relationship. It is about the difficulties in finding authenticity in human relations. While that is not a cheerful subject, since the fact that such difficulties are intrinsic to human relations, I am not sure I would use the word depressing to describe the net result. Sobering, I think, is a better one. We need to be aware of the limitations.

You certainly did not have to come here with your inane comments.

I think there are two purposes in posting here that are valid in the sense of honest and truthful, but also rewarding in both the subjective and perhaps social sense. Whether that benefits one's health? Again, I think so in a general sense of including the benefits of insight and other subjective "benefits".

So the first I think comes from the exchange of views. Do other people see something in a film the appreciation of which articulation provides some personal benefit? Is it shared information? Something I did not see? Something I did see, but benefit by "testing" it seeing whether others can and do see the same? Can a discussion proceed that can tease out some understanding one of us alone either has not or even cannot?

The other is more subtle and elusive, but it is certainly something I find beneficial. By having to put one's observations on or about a film into writing, you test the internal coherence and value of such observations. If you can't articulate your pov, perhaps there is something missing, something wrong with it. Maybe in attempting to put a coherent view in writing, you find you can't, or more frequently your view requires some clarification.

Just stating some subjective view without support does neither of those two things.
